After being tricked by Odysseus, Cyclops Polyphemus prays to his father, Poseidon, for revenge and casts huge rocks towards the ship, which Odysseus barely escapes.
The Cyclops are giants of irascible character with only one eye. Probably the most famous of them is Polyphemus, Poseidon’s favorite son. There are two scenes where Polyphemus throws stones: one, narrated in the Odyssey, where he tries to sink Ulysses’ ship; and the other to kill Ascis out of jealousy.
Curiously, some poems and stories relate the refined sensitivity of Polyphemus himself for his beloved Galatea.
